new york new york... how i love thee

For the past two months or so, I've been spending my weekends in NYC. It's been awesome times and interesting experiences. I've met some really great people and hung out with some old friends. This Friday, I meet with my boss to discuss the possibility of me transfering to the NY office. Is this really something I can do?

Yes. It is. We will see how Friday goes. If all goes well, I'll begin planning my exit strategy friday night.

This is me breathing.

Change is of the essence

Yesterday was my last day in Dallas for one month. I'll be spending the next month in Florida and New York. I will be returning March 2nd... and will be in dallas for about 14 hours... then off to Whistler for an amazing ski trip... and then back to dallas for about 14 hours. Then back to Florida/NY for as long as I can keep this going.

I haven't yet decided if I want to make this more of a permanent move, but lately I've been thinking that I should. Dallas has been great to me. It really has, but I'm getting old and this may be one of my last chances to live in such an awesome city. I sent an email to our head guy of Dallas, letting him know that I would like to talk to him about all of this. He wants to meet in person... unfortunately, I'm not sure when I will return though for a long enough time to actually speak with him in person.

This is all going to be interesting. I'll post some pics later this week of my apartment in NYC. I'll be living with two random people that I found on craigslist. From talking to them so far, they seem like really awesome people. So it should be fun.

More to come later this week.

Life at the Homewood

In the past few months... i've spent several nights at a hotel in Juno Beach, FL called the Homewood Suites. Of course, it is a hilton brand hotel (which is pretty much the only place I will stay since i'm a hilton whore). The beds are decent, pillows are a little big, but i get by.

The good thing about the homewood, the free breakfast and dinner. This allows me to save my per diem. Yes, I know i'm cheap, but with my travel lifestyle, it's kind of necessary to afford it all. After tonight, i've begun reconsidering. The food... is cafeteria food, at best. It's extremely salty, and i'm a little worried that it is really really really bad for me. From now on, i will no longer... wait, who am i kidding, it's free, i'm cheap, and i'm going to keep eating it. Even if it... well... kills me.

This is 2009... This is the year of the Dude

2009 started out pretty well. I ended up in San Francisco after a few hours of being delayed on Thursday, Jan 1. Started off the day with Webb and Meridith in an area called the Haight. I believe if I ever do get to move to San Fran, this would be the area I would want to live in. We drank a few awesome beers at a place called Magnolia Pub and had an awesome Pizza. Then went to some strange stores and tried on crazy hats.

That night we stayed in Menlo Park, went to a few local small bars and met some interesting people. Then tried to watch Kung Foo Panda, but ended up falling asleep.

Friday involved us waking up and running some errands and chilling out in the afternoon. I caught myself up on mint and was able to make a pretty accurate estimate on how much I spent on bars in 2008. I will say this, it was about what I expected. All in all, I made at least 20 visits and spent 500 bucks at my favorite bar, The Gingerman. Maybe in 2009, I can shift more of my bar expenses to the Gingerman, since that is my favorite place to be.

Friday night... was... well Awesome. The theme of the night was... Vietnamese, a secret, fire, and a castle (not in any particular order). The night consisted of the following characters... Son, Lan, Webb, Mere, and myself. An exciting and wonderful crowd if I do say so myself. The Vietnamese food was good, way better than I thought. From there, we stayed in the Tenderloin area (supposedly a shady area in San Fran, wasn't that bad) and progressed to a secret bar called Bourbon and Branch. It was a speakeasy bar that isn't really labeled well and is suppose to provide a glimpse back into the prohibition days. They had several types of scotch and whiskey... which was awesome. But I still ordered a beer. From there, we traveled to Edinburgh Castle. Another local bar that had some awesome beers on draft. We had several drinks of course and good times went down.

After the Castle... we strolled down to the Fire Bar. To this day, i have no idea what it is called, but it was a party. As we walked in, i could smell some kind of remnants of fire. Apparently, they had just lit the bar on fire prior to us arriving. We learned soon after, that they only light the bar on fire once a night... and we missed it. At this point, webb proceeded to order one of every beer that they have on draft... which might have been 10 to 12 beers for 4 people. I think i had about 2.5. Webb was also able to make friends with a local who helped convince them to light the bar on fire again. A San Fran first. This is what it looked like:

It was amazing. After this... we stumbled and walked really far to make it home. We found Bob's Donuts and ate the crap out of them. Apparently I had a pretty long conversation with a homeless man, and webb tried to make it rain money for the homeless man. After arriving at Lan's place, I pretty much passed out immediately in a chair and was done for the night. All in all, a great night. The next day, webb was pretty sick, and i was kind of hurting. San Fran was a great trip... and this trip once again made me hopeful to possibly move to San Fran some point soon. I like it there... just not sure what i would do there.

Back Stage Passes

Last night I went to a Stars game with my best friend phil. He works for the hockey team out in Fort Worth and was able to score some nice seats and locker room passes for the San Jose Sharks. While down there, I got to see Rob Blake, Jeremy Roenick, and Joe Thornton. Three great hockey players. Overall, it was a really fun experience that I'll remember for a while.

2009 Resolutions:
1. Work out more. I was doing well up until the Christmas Holidays... I need to get back in it.
2. Save the actual amounts that I'm suppose to.
3. Enjoy life and experience it.

I'm sure there are others I will come up with in the next 35 hours... But for now, I'm off to Laguna Beach for a couple days, then San Francisco.

2008 White Rock Relay - South Park

It was another great year for Seam Ttupid, this being our 4th White Rock Marathon Relay (My 3rd to run in). This year I was tasked with the 3rd leg of about 5 miles. Great times...

The following narrates it all in photos:

The night prior event always takes place at the Gingerman. We have a mandatory meeting at 2 am. This year... the meeting continued on into the night until 3:30 AM.

Myself and Webb... at the gingerman.

And we drink beer...

Suzanne and Meghan... good ole friends...

Seam Ttupid... 7:40 AM before the race starts

We fought some bulls...

Me starting my 5 mile leg... chuggin down a beer...

Catching me at a transition point...

Struggling... the only reason i was able to keep running was due to the help of the girl behind me... i did not want someone that goes to OU to run faster than me... So i just paced myself till the end.

Rental cars... who cares if you stand on top of them...

Post Race... in front of the AA

Next year... we should be able to get Michelob Ultra to sponsor us. You think i'm joking, but seriously... while taking pics in front of the truck, the Michelob Ultra rep asked us if we were the BOrats two years ago, and Stewies last year (it's amazing how people remember our stupid antics). She gave us her email and said next year they would probably be interested in sponsoring us. Awesome... my dreams are coming true, being sponsored by a beer.

The plan for next year is underway already... wait for it.

Executive platinum

Is it bad that a personal goal of mine for 2009 is to make executive platinum on American airlines. If you don't know what that it is, it means by the end of 2009, I should be able to fly the plane.

Why'd you wanna go and put stars in their eyes...

It's the same old story, they just didn't realize.

That would be the song that is jammin on my laptop at the moment. Just got back from the gym... did a quick 3 mile run at 8 minute mile... and now I'm hurting a little. Not sure if that is good since I'll have to do 6 on sunday with a huge headache. Either way, i did the best i could at emergency training (really only started seriously training 2 weeks ago).

The past few days have gone a lot better at work. Still really busy, but things are kind of clearing up. Of course right when things clear up, some other issue comes up, that i have to understand... so now it's just something else. Guess that just the way it goes.

Tomorrow, I get to go home. It will be nice to sleep in my own bed again. THe past several night I've been waking up several times a night, and for some reason not feeling tired. I'm not sure why, i'm staying up late, waking up early. I should be way more tired than i am. What is wrong with me?

Next week will be my last week in Florida for 2008. I'll be spending new years on the opposite side of the country... Laguna Beach. Should be interesting since I've never been to that are in Cali. Hopefully I'll meet Lauren from the Hills and we will fall madly in love... ha... fat chance.

this is me breathing?

Tuesday

It was rough waking up this morning, but I survived. Had a two hour meeting from 930 to 1130, got assigned more work, not sure how they are going to expect me to do all of this.

Another two hour meeting in the afternoon. I imagine there will be a few more this week.

Ran last night. 4 miles in 33 minutes. 8 15 miles. I need to drop that to 8 and be able to run 6. Tonight i'll shoot for 2 or 3 at sub 8.

Not that anyone cares... but these are the things that consume my days lately while im in florida. Eating free breakfast, long meetings, lots of work, $4.25 lunch, more meetings, more work, free dinner, work a little more and take care of personal finances, work out at Gold's Gym, eat some turtles, drink a poweraid, go to sleep.

The End.

three hour meeting

i had a three hour meeting today. I believe zero progress was made. This cannot be good, can it?

Four more days in beautiful Florida. Weather here is perfect.

Went to the gym tonight. Crowdedness ensued. Followed that by going to Hurricanes to have some wings. I'm not much of a wing eater... they were alright.

White Rock Marathon is this weekend... wait for it.

I'm still considering London at the end of January for a 3 - 4 day trip. It will be rough, but I'll be there with some really fun guys which will mean some really good times.

Off to bed... let's see how this goes.

Tomorrow is Friday

How do i know this you may ask, well i know this because I have one pair of socks, one pair of boxers, and one more under shirt.

I go home tomorrow. Wait for it. I need to be somewhat good this weekend.

Whoa

So... only in South Florida will you see a 70 year old woman smoking a swisher sweet with sunglasses on at night. You know what they say, the sun never sets on cool.

Planned Trips for 2008:
1. San Fran
2. Possibly London
3. Whistler
4. Probably one vegas trip
5. At least one NY trip
6. Possibly Peru
7. Jackson Hole, WY

I imagine one or two trips may be thrown in there. We shall see... only time will tell

A boring entry... because this is my life

4:55 - I wake up on my own mostly due to nervousness that one of my two alarm clocks will not go off. I'm paranoid about oversleeping and missing a flight... I know, I'm crazy.
4:59 - Alarm number 1 goes off. I can't figure out how to turn the damn thing off. Why do I set alarms I don't understand.
5:00 - Alarm number 2 goes off. Very easy to turn off, so I do. Luckily or unluckily, however you want to put it, I'm awake due to both alarms. The heater kicks on. Strange, I didn't know we had turned it on this year. I make some adjustments to make it turn off.
5:30 - Out the door. Make my call to AA to find out my gate. All is good.
6:25 - Board the plane and sit in seat 10F. By far the greatest seat other than being in first class (except for I didn't plan for weirdo to sit next to me).
6:26 - I'm in my seat and asleep. Life is good
6:45 - Someone hits my chair really hard. I wake up.
6:45:02 - Someone hits my chair really hard again. I turn around with the death stare, only to find a co worker. Ha.
6:50 - Guy sitting next to me arrives with starbucks coffee and some form of pastry. I still don't understand why so many people in this word must drink coffee to get going.
6:51 - I'm back asleep
6:55 - Guy next to me opens the window next to me. WTF. I'm trying to sleep, the light sure doesn't help. I push through it and am able to fall asleep.
10:30 - Touch down in FLL. Rent Car. Drive 1 hour to Fort Lauderdale. Eat a burrito at Moes.
12:30 - Arrive at work to start my day.
6:20 - Receive a random voice mail. All i can hear is TI singing in the background. I must have been pocket dialed.
6:30 - Leave work. Pick up Dry Cleaning. Check in to hotel.
7:00 - Go downstairs to eat the free dinner. Salisbury Steak. For some reason, this makes me happy. Wheel of Fortune is on. I knew that prior to looking at the Television since it's 7 pm and and the TV is always on the same channel.
9:15 - Current time. I go to workout now.

This is my life on the road. Almost every monday goes like this. For some reason, I like it.

Recent Ebay Acquisition

I got my recent eBay acquisition in the mail yesterday and framed it last night. Now just need to figure out where to hang it.

Thoughts on where it should go?
